About this year's challenge ... The organisers have decided that, having done previous routes through Queensland, New South Wales, Victoria, South Australia, Western Australia and the Northern Territory, it is time the Postie Bike Challenge visited Tasmania. The shortest route from Hobart to Alice Springs is about 2,500kms. There is no point in taking the shortest route when you can take a much more adventurous - almost 3,300km (including up to 1,000km of unsealed roads) - route at a top speed of 70 kph! "We have listened to your suggestions and in 2013 we will include Tasmania as the launching pad for another Postie Bike Challenge adventure. We currently have our team scouring over the best routes, roads, and fire trails through Tasmania. Our route through Victoria is still being planned but I can say that we are making a bee-line for the edge of the Flinders Ranges in South Australia before taking the Oodnadatta track to our final destination in Alice Springs, Northern Territory. As in previous events we will be looking for all manner of roads and surfaces to challenge you. If we can find a good sand track - we'll take it! If we can find a water crossing - we'll take it! If there is a fire trail to the top of a mountain - we'll take it!" This year 41 men and 11 women from Australia, New Zealand and the UK, and ranging in age from 19 to 72 years of age, have signed up to take the Challenge! This intrepid group of travellers comes from all walks of life including a company director, student, truck driver, lawyer, miner, business analyst, teacher, finance broker, farmer and retiree.
